Evidence-informed roots
Nutrition foundation
A Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition from Bastyr University created the scientific foundation for Christina’s whole-person approach to food, health, and sustainable change.
Meet Christina McDonough · Founder of Vital Mana
I created Vital Mana to bring nutrition, hypnotherapy, coaching, and natural wellness together in a way that feels thoughtful, practical, and deeply human.

Christina McDonough · Nutritionist · Certified Hypnotherapist (CHt)Why I created Vital Mana
I have always been drawn to the places where science, human behavior, nature, and everyday life meet.
As a mom of three, I understand that wellness has to work within a full, evolving, and sometimes unpredictable life. That perspective shapes the practical, compassionate support I offer every client.
After my time in the Marine Corps and before I went to college, I realized I needed to quit smoking. I turned to hypnotherapy—and it worked. Experiencing that change firsthand sparked a lasting curiosity about the subconscious mind and showed me that change can become possible in a completely different way.
My interest in nutrition became deeply personal after learning I had Hashimoto's and needing to change my diet. Cutting out certain foods had a profound impact on how I felt, and I wanted to understand why food could influence health and daily life so powerfully.
That experience helped lead me to study Nutrition at Bastyr University. While I was there, electives—including making herbal medicine—opened another door. I became fascinated by practical herbal remedies, traditional preparations, and the ways plants can become part of meaningful everyday wellness rituals.
My later work in nutrition, coaching, special diets, family programs, and hypnotherapy brought those threads together. It also taught me that knowing what to do is not the same as feeling able to do it—and that even excellent advice is only helpful when it fits the person receiving it.
Vital Mana grew from the belief that meaningful change can be both grounded and expansive. You can honor evidence while listening to yourself. You can pursue a goal without turning against your body. And you can receive skilled support without being treated like a problem that needs to be fixed.
The path that shaped this work
Vital Mana reflects years of working with food, behavior, health, habits, and the many practical details that determine whether change can last.

Guidance in the real world
As Director of Nutritional Support at Persona Nutrition and through years of health coaching, Christina learned how to translate information into personalized, workable next steps.
Food has to fit life
Her experience includes serving as a Children’s Nutrition Coordinator, supporting children’s meal programs and daycare nutrition services, and preparing personalized meals as a former personal chef for people with special dietary needs.
Change beneath the surface
As a Certified Hypnotherapist (CHt) through the Hypnotherapy Institute of Spokane, Christina expanded her approach to include subconscious patterns, nervous-system support, guided experiences, and practical herbal-wellness education.
How I approach the work
My role is not to hand you a rigid identity or a perfect plan. It is to help you understand yourself more clearly, choose meaningful next steps, and build support around the change you want to create.
A goal never exists in isolation. Your health, habits, responsibilities, environment, history, and current season all deserve a place in the conversation.
Good guidance should make life feel clearer—not more overwhelming. The plan must work beyond the appointment, in your kitchen, schedule, relationships, and real routines.
You do not need more judgment or another demand to be perfect. Curiosity, compassion, and honest support create better conditions for lasting change.
Evidence matters. So do lived experience, body awareness, personal meaning, and the quiet information that appears when you finally have space to listen.
The meaning behind Vital Mana
To me, vital speaks to the energy and aliveness that make life feel like your own. Mana evokes the inner strength, presence, and life force we reconnect with when mind and body are no longer pulling in opposite directions.
The lavender and rosemary spiral represents that return: calming and awakening, soft and strong, rooted and still moving. It is a reminder that growth rarely happens in a straight line—and that returning to yourself is still forward movement.
Vital Mana is based in Camas, Washington, with in-person and virtual support for individuals, groups, community spaces, and workplaces.
You may feel at home here if
You do not need to arrive certain, polished, or already motivated. You only need enough curiosity to begin a real conversation about what is happening now and what you hope could be different.
Choose your place to begin
Each Vital Mana service remains clear and distinct. If you are not sure which path fits, start with a conversation and Christina will help you understand the options.
